During May 12-15, 2014, CAE Validus held the first module of professional training on “Person-Centered Planning – Creating a Better Future for People with Intellectual Disabilities”.

The training was primarily intended for professionals who work with people with intellectual disabilities and combined disabilities. Representatives from the Centre for  Rehabilitation Zagreb, Centre for Rehabilitation Rijeka, Centre for Rehabilitation Ozalj, Centre for Inclusive Support Slavonski Brod, Home for Mentally Ill Adults Osijek and professional staff of the Association for Promoting Inclusion and CAE Validus participated in this four-day training.

In an encouraging atmosphere of interactive learning participants were introduced to the concept of person-centered approach and building relationships. Furthermore, they gained process facilitation skills in person-centered planning and were graphically able to implement this process by using the MAP (Making Action Plans) planning tools.

Expert trainers involved in the training were:

  • Patti Scott and David Hasbury, experts from US-based organization Neighbours Inc., which focuses on empowering people to increase control and choice in their lives, regardless of the extent and nature of their disability;
  • Bojana Rozman, PhD, with more than 10 years of experience working with organizations on developing a person-centered approach to service and care; and
  • Slavenka Martinović, psychologist and managing director of CAE Validus.
