Training on community service provision for people with disabilities was held from April, 3-6, 2017 in CAE Validus for six members of professional staff of Hand in Hand organized housing service – Georgia. Training was focused on acquiring the new specific knowledge and skills in the field of community based service provision for people with disabilities with a focus on challenging behavior, psychological needs, sexuality, person centered active support and gentle teaching. In very motivating and active atmosphere the personal experiences, dilemmas and challenges were discussed using the method of discussion in order to look for possible solutions for staff to support the needs of people with disabilities.
During the 4-day training, the participants had the opportunity to visit persons with intellectual disabilities who receive organized housing service of Association for Promoting Inclusion and exchanged the information with direct support staff.
The certificates of attendance were given upon completion of training. Training was led by Slavenka Martinović, psychologist. The evaluation proved this training to be useful in empowering the staff for quality work and we are looking forward to future cooperation and hosting of organization in Croatia.
