The role of adult education in building a Europe of knowledge

On July 11, 2014 representatives of CAE Validus, Željka Ciler and Sandra Nuždić, participated at the international conference “Europe of knowledge and the role of adult education” in Hotel Dubrovnik, Zagreb, Croatia. The conference was held to celebrate the completion of a two-year project of the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports called “The Implementation of the European Agenda for Adult Education” (2012-2014).

The above mentioned project promoted the new Council Resolution on a renewed European agenda for adult learning and Recommendations of the European Parliament and of the Council on key competences for lifelong learning. The aim of the project was to increase the number of participants and improve the quality of adult education in Croatia. The specific objectives of the projects were to raise awareness about the role and importance of adult education and to promote the benefits of participating in adult education programs, particularly in the context of increasing employability.

The conference addressed the role of adult education and lifelong learning in building a Europe of knowledge, presented examples of good practice in several European countries, and a new model for adult education based on key competences for lifelong learning. Furthermore, the speakers addressed the issue of professionalization of adult education and communication in mother tongue, as well as presented the results of the project. The conference was attended by representatives of the relevant Ministry and experts in adult education from Norway, Austria, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia and Serbia.
