From February 22-26, 2017, CAE Validus organized a study visit for the representatives of Hand in Hand and Georgian Association for Mental Health (GAMH) – the non-governmental organizations; and the representatives of Tbilisi City Hall (Department of Health and Social Services) from Georgia.
The aim of study visit was to familiarize with the process of deinstitutionalization and transformation in Croatia, legal regulation in the social welfare system and community-based service provision and familiarize with the model of supported housing for people with disabilities, with an emphasis on supporting people with psychosocial disabilities.
Meeting with the representatives was held in the first day of visit with aim to familiarize them with the work of CAE Validus and Association for Promoting Inclusion. The meeting with the self-advocates of Association for Self-Advocacy was held as well the same day. Self-advocates presented their mutual longtime work on improving the status of people with intellectual disabilities in Croatia.
The representatives visited the Centre to community-based service provision Ozalj – community service provider for people with intellectual disabilities and the Centre for community-based service provision Osijek „JA kao i TI“ – community service provider for people with psychosocial disabilities the next days. The representatives were given an insight into the experiences and challenges in the process of deinstitutionalization and transformation. They had also the opportunity to visit several apartments, talk with the staff in direct support and people who receive supported housing service in order to share their acquired knowledge in their organizations. They also visited the three apartments of Association for Promoting Inclusion. The visit was ended by showing video materials about the process of deinstitutionalization and transformation, talking about their experiences and impressions acquired during the visit and answering additional questions.
