Training on universal design and supported living for people with physical disabilities was held from August 9th to August 12th in CAE Validus for five members of Leave Home Foundation (Wyjdź Z Domu Fundacja) from Poland.
Leave Home Foundation has been active since 2012 and in this period, it organized over 60 trips and tours to 9 European countries, in which 2,400 clients participated, at least 40% of which were people with disabilities.
Training was focused on acquiring new specific knowledge and skills in the field of providing supported living to people with physical disabilities. Specific focus was placed on architectural universal design and the methods of adaptation of existing buildings to the needs of people with physical disabilities.
Training was performed in the relaxed, but motivating atmosphere that encouraged debate and active exchange of knowledge and skills between the educators and attendees.
During the four-days-long training course, attendees visited two supported housing locations in Zagreb, owned by Association for Promoting Inclusion (CAE Validus founder) that were built following the principles of universal design.
The certificates of attendance were given upon completion of training.
In the evaluation, attendees expressed satisfaction with the acquired skills and stated the intent for further cooperation. Training was led by Elina Petričec, mag.paed.soc.
